Meeting of the OAS Staff Committee with the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS
July 25, 2011
The Assistant Secretary General convoked the OAS Staff Committee for a courtesy visit on July 25, 2011. The main goal was to congratulate the incoming Committee members and renew his commitment with the OAS personnel.
During the meeting, the Committee members presented the main concerns raised by the staff, with regards to their current situation, and the challenges faced by the Organization – especially given the 2012 budgetary projections and the current deficit. The Assistant Secretary General highlighted the importance of searching for alternatives to the present situation, adding that there is a need to have a comprehensive, fair and transparent personnel policy that could offer professional growth and mobility for staff members.
Additionally, the Committee commented on the need to accelerate the
competitions for expired and/or reclassified posts and the publication
of the list of staff eligible for continuing contracts.
On that regard, the Assistant Secretary General renew his call to work jointly with the Committee on these matters, and commented on the importance of having the voice of the staff when the Administration is dealing with issues of personnel.
The Staff Committee would like to thank the ongoing collaboration and disposition of Ambassador Ramdin, and stresses the importance of a continued and open dialogue on the current challenges and issues of concern for the staff members.

Reunión del Comité de Personal de la OEA y el Secretario General Adjunto de la Organización

El Secretario General Adjunto convocó al Comité de Personal a una reunión protocolar el día 25 de julio de 2011 con el fin de saludar a los nuevos miembros del Comité y renovar su compromiso con el personal de la Organización.
Durante la reunión, los miembros del Comité de Personal presentaron los temas de preocupación con respecto a la situación del personal de la OEA y los desafíos que se enfrentan en la actualidad – especialmente en relación a la proyección presupuestaria para el año 2012 y la reducción presupuestaria del corriente año. El Secretario General Adjunto resaltó la importancia de la búsqueda de alternativas en la actual coyuntura, comentando sobre la necesidad de contar con una política de personal comprehensiva que sea justa, transparente y que ofrezca al personal posibilidades de crecimiento y movilidad profesional. Adicionalmente el Comité planteó la necesidad de acelerar los concursos para los cargos de corto plazo expirados y la publicación de la lista de personas elegibles para concursar por contratos continuos.
Para ello, renovó el llamado a trabajar conjuntamente con el Comité, toda vez que comentó sobre la importancia de contar con la voz de la Asociación en los temas referidos a los asuntos de personal.
El Comité de Personal agradece la continua colaboración y disposición del Embajador Ramdin, y destaca la importancia de que se continúe con un diálogo fluido y abierto sobre los actuales desafíos y preocupaciones del personal.
