OAS STAFF ASSOCIATION
MOUSEPAD DESIGN CONTEST
The OAS Staff Association
invites all those interested in participating in a contest to design a
mousepad for the Organization of American States (OAS) to fill out the
attached registration form and send your design to us before June 14, 2004.
The theme of the design is
the Organization of American States. As a reference for contest
participants, we include below a brief description of the Organization and
some of its most important activities.
What is the
Organization of American States?
Made up of 35 member
states, the Organization of American States is the region’s premier
political forum for multilateral dialogue and action. This grouping of
nations from North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean is playing
a central role in building a better future for the next generation by
strengthening democracy;
advancing human rights;
promoting peace and
security; expanding
trade; and tackling complex problems caused by poverty, drugs, and
corruption.
In this new century and
new millennium, the challenge is how to turn citizens’ high expectations
into reality. Through the
Summit of the Americas
process, the heads of state and government of the Americas have given the
OAS important responsibilities and mandates, including:
•Strengthening freedom of
speech and thought as a basic human right;
•Promoting greater
participation by civil society in decision-making at all levels of
government;
•Improving cooperation to
address the problem of illegal drugs;
and
•Supporting the process to
create a Free Trade Area of
the Americas
The OAS also brings
together government leaders from member states to focus on
education, justice,
security and other
issues that that touch people’s lives in tangible ways.
Who can participate in this contest?

Artwork
specifications for the winning entry:
Once the final design has
been selected, we will request the following artwork specifications:
File formats/image
resolution:
All images or artwork must
be resent to us at actual finished size. Continuous tone color or grayscale
images must have a resolution of 300 to 400 dpi/ppi (dots per inch/pixels
per inch). Bitmapped images must have a minimum resolution of 300 ppi. 600
to 1200 ppi is recommended for best quality. Rasterized images such as
scans, photographs, or artwork created with Photoshop must be saved in tif,
eps, or the native Photoshop psd format. JPEG (jpg) files must be saved as
the highest quality JPEG (300 dpi).
Color:
Colors must be designated
as “spot" or "four-color process" (CMYK). Spot colors should be selected
from the Pantone coated or HKS coated color-matching systems. Spot colors
used in artwork that will be printed in four-color process must be
converted to CMYK equivalents unless they are intended to be printed as
additional colors. Colors defined in RGB must be converted to CMYK.
Bleeds and Crop
Marks:
Artwork should extend ⅛"
beyond the pad's trim (finished size) dimensions. Crop marks should be
placed just outside of the bleed area marking the final finished size.
Live area and
borders:
Keep all text a minimum of
¼" inside the final trim dimensions. Borders that parallel the edge of the
pad are not recommended since even slight variations in print position may
be noticeable. If a borderline must be used, position it at least ¼" or
more from the edge of the pad. If a solid border or border bleeding off the
edge is used, make it at least ¼" thick.
