Program-budget for 2008
On June 5, 2007, at its
thirty-seventh regular session, the General Assembly adopted resolution
AG/RES. 2353, which approves and authorizes the program-budget of the
Organization of American States for 2008. The resolution also sets the
Regular Fund budget ceiling for 2008 at US$87.5 million.
In the deliberations that
concluded with the adoption of the resolution, three options for funding the
2008 program-budget arose. The member states decided to instruct the
Permanent Council to convene a special session of the General Assembly, to
be held before October 31, 2007, to determine the best option.
The General Secretariat
was instructed to present, at the close of each fiscal period, a report on
statutory adjustments and the relative changes. It was also recognized that
the General Secretariat must present recommendations on personnel policy and
its sustainability, in the light of new mandates, the recent restructuring
of the General Secretariat, and the financial status of the OAS. In this
resolution, the other topics related to human resources are: a policy that
takes into account the principle of geographic representation; gender equity
and equality; and trust positions.
The Staff Committee is
pleased to share with the members of the Staff Association the complete text
of the resolution adopted in Panama:
