The function of this Subcommittee is to promote the participation of General Secretariat staff in various activities. Soccer and softball teams are currently active and there is an interest in backing other sports teams. In addition to the financial support received from the OAS Staff Association, assistance has been received from the OAS Staff Federal Credit Union. Any OAS staff or family members 18 years or over are eligible to participate.

» Football team

“Team OAS” belongs to the Montgomery County Recreation Department league, in the Second Division. In that league, 10 teams participate in two championships each year–one in the spring and one in the fall. The games are played on Sundays on the County’s fields, with practice every Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in front of the Main Building of the OAS. In 1991, “Team OAS” was Third Division champion and as a result moved up to the Second Division. Anyone interested in joining the team should contact Julian Sinisterra.

» Softball team

The team’s name is “Los Picantes.” It belongs to the Congressional Softball League of Washington, D.C., which comprises more than 150 teams. Games are played on the Washington Monument fields on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. until nightfall. The team is coed with a total of 25 players, 10 of them women.
