The Medical Benefits
Trust Fund was established by the General Secretariat on June 27, 2000
for the purpose of managing the Trust Fund assets and income and for
paying benefits under the GS/OAS Medical Benefits Plan for eligible
employees, retirees of the General Secretariat, the Inter-American
Defense Board, and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and their
eligible dependents.
The Secretary General
appoints five Delegate Trustees and provides for the appointment of
Substitute Delegate Trustees. The Delegate Trustees include:
a)
A person
appointed in consultation with the Staff Committee of the Staff
Association of the General Secretariat;
b)
A person
appointed in consultation with the Association of Retirees of the OAS (“AROAS”);
and
c)
Three
other persons
The appointment term
for all Delegate Trustees is three years. Each Delegate Trustee may
appoint a Substitute Delegate Trustee with the same term of appointment
as the Delegate Trustee.
